Returning to Italy: Growth, Healing, and the Beauty of Feeling Fully
Last August, I found myself back in Italy — a place that holds a special meaning for me. It wasn’t my first time there, but this trip wasn’t only about holiday and travel. It was also about going deeper: attending workshops, reconnecting with parts of myself, and leaning into growth in ways that felt both beautiful and painful.
The Weight and Lightness of Inner Work
We often talk about personal growth as something inspiring, but the truth is — it can be draining. It can hurt. And yet, in that discomfort lies the possibility for powerful shifts.
Being in those workshops meant resurfacing emotions. Old memories, complex feelings, and questions about myself and my relationships came up in unexpected ways. Growth, I realised, is less about “fixing” and more about learning to feel fully, acknowledge what arises, and move forward with more clarity.
When the Past Meets the Present
One of the most confronting parts of this trip was noticing how past experiences resurfaced in the same places where beautiful memories were made.
It reminded me that healing isn’t a straight line. Sometimes a place can hold both beauty and ache. The work then is not about erasing the past, but holding both truths: the beauty of what was, and the acceptance of what is.
Learning Through Connection
The first workshop, The Flow of Love, with the Learning Love Institute, focused on love and connection. It explored relationships and connections and gave me space to reflect on how love flows through my life, in all its beauty and complexity. Assisting in this workshop deepened my appreciation for how relationships can both heal and reveal wounds we may still carry, and how vital it is to tend to those inner places.
One of the key reminders for me was the importance of honouring and caring for my relationship with myself first. When I meet myself with respect, compassion, and care, it equips me to allow love to flow outward more authentically into my relationships with others.
The second workshop I was fortunate to attend focused on group facilitation — learning how to hold space, guide processes, and support collective healing. I was lucky to share this experience with my mum and some close friends, which made the learning even more powerful.
While the training itself was about skills for group work, it also surfaced some deeper emotional wounds. My mum and I have been through a lot together, and it’s taken love and effort to rebuild our relationship. We continue to nurture it, and today it’s the strongest it has ever been. Still, moments like this reminded me that even in healthy, loving relationships, waves of emotion can arise. That doesn’t mean something is wrong, it’s simply part of the ongoing work of growth and connection.
Finding Balance
Italy wasn’t only about inner work. There were also slow mornings of coffee in quiet piazzas, laughter with friends on cobblestone streets, and the joy of being surrounded by a community who understood this kind of journey.
I also discovered something important about myself: the need for space. As much as I thrive in connection, I realised how much I also need moments of solitude to process, recharge, and let growth integrate.
That balance between togetherness and aloneness, between joy and challenge is what makes growth sustainable.
A Gentle Invitation
If there’s one takeaway I hope you find in my reflections, it’s this: healing and growth are ongoing, layered journeys. They aren’t linear, and they don’t always feel good. They ask you to sit with emotions you may have once buried, to hold both beauty and loss, to lean into discomfort and allow it to teach you. To welcome joy, pain, gratitude, and confusion — sometimes all in one breath.
But this work, as hard as it can be is worth it. Because on the other side of feeling fully, there is peace, authenticity, and a deeper joy.
So, wherever you are in your own season of growth, I invite you to give yourself the grace of time, the courage to feel fully, and the trust that even in the hardest moments, something beautiful is unfolding.
